Heritage Highland Cattle

Registered, traditionally raised Highlands in Central Alberta

About the Highland Breed

Highland cattle are known for their hardiness, gentle nature, and ability to thrive in challenging climates. As one of the oldest registered cattle breeds in the world, they are valued for their longevity, low input requirements, and calm temperaments.

Well-suited to life on native pasture, Highlands are efficient foragers and adapt naturally to Alberta’s seasons. Their beef is lean, flavourful, and naturally lower in cholesterol while remaining high in protein and essential minerals.

Beyond their productivity, Highlands play an important role in conservation grazing, helping to maintain grasslands and support healthy ecosystems.

How Our Highlands Are Raised

At Three Son Acres, every animal is raised with intention, patience, and daily hands-on care.

  • All cattle are registered Highlands

  • Breeding occurs only after two years of age to allow full physical maturity before calving

  • Vaccinations follow veterinary protocol

  • Cattle graze on native pasture during the grazing season

  • Supplemental minerals are provided as needed

  • Local hay is fed throughout the winter months

  • The fold is visited daily for combing, petting, and close health assessment

This consistent care helps produce sound, calm, and healthy animals.
